mastodon has this feature where if you try to like a post when you're not registered/logged on to that instance a pop up appears asking you to enter your @handle@instance and it fetches the post on your instance. It can do this even if your instance wasn't federating with that mastodon initially and so the post wasn't visible. How is it fetching the post on your instance, and how can I do it without needing to track down the post on some mastodon instance?
